The Life of the Fleming’s

I have moved over to a new web host and a new domain. I am looking forward to integrating the site with pictures of our family and the latest news. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them on the About page. I also have a link to the original site. This site has all of the movies. I have not moved the movies over to the new site yet.

For individuals interested in how I did this, I am using Wordpress as my blog, with a sticky note hack to keep this post at the top of the first page and the static page format for the About page. I also used the “Rubic” style from that site, modified for my own needs. I haven’t tried skins yet, but I really like my format, so I am not sure that I will change it. My about page also has my first work at writing PHP. I use it for the e-mail form. I am not sure how much I will do, but I think that my first programming worked well.

For the gallery I use, Gallery, open source software to display images and movies. I like the overall format. It took a while to modify the wrapper.header and wrapper.footer to have it look like my weblog site, but it really matches well. The movies do not load the thumbnails well, so I have to do that by hand. I had to find a trick to get the thumbs. You have to change the settings in Windows Movie Player so that a screen capture will work. The Otherwise I use the Remote Gallery tool for my uploads and creating albums.

Overall I am very happy with my web site. I will keep posting and always improving on it. I have filled up about one third of my drive space and about half of that are the 5 movies I currently have posted, so I will need more. Disk space is cheap. I can almost double my disk space for an extra $1 a month and triple it for $3. And I am sure that the price will only come down.
